At face value, it's a one-mana creature recursion spell that competes with established options like Unearth and Recover, but those alternatives don't require setup or offer the kicker mode's battlefield entry. The kicked version justifies the five-mana investment only in specific shells where you're already filling your graveyard and need the creature immediately—think Murktide decks or Commander reanimator lists. In most contexts, you're paying too much for what amounts to a slower Unearth.
