Niche life-drain engine for black midrange and lifegain strategies, but requires consistent life gain triggers to justify its slot and is easily outclassed by more efficient threats in competitive formats. Best in casual Commander decks built around Soul Sisters effects or other dedicated lifegain payoffs, where it turns incremental life gain into real damage. In Modern and Pioneer, the lack of efficient lifegain sources and better removal targets make it a fringe pick at best.
