Ward {2} makes it a resilient blocker that taxes opposing interaction, while Repartee rewards instant-speed removal and combat tricks with incremental damage and life gain. Fits well in Pioneer and Modern shells that already run targeted spells, though it demands a critical mass of instants and sorceries to justify the four-mana slot—without them, it's just a modest body with a tax effect.
